Homeowners' pick for heating and cooling across central Kentucky and the Bluegrass

Mini-Split Repair — Book a Visit Today

We repair ductless mini-splits and multi-zone systems for homeowners across Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia and Georgia, and the fastest next step is to call us with the model of your indoor head and a description of what it is doing. Most mini-split calls come down to a blinking error code, a clogged condensate line dripping down the wall, a dirty blower wheel that has killed the airflow, a failed outdoor board or a refrigerant leak at a flare connection. A visit starts with reading the fault code at the outdoor unit, checking airflow and drainage at each head, then measuring pressures and electrical values before we quote the fix. If one head is out and the rest still run, tell us that too. It narrows things down quickly.

The mini-split symptoms we hear most

  • One head blows warm while the others cool fine Stuck or failed zone valve, low refrigerant in that circuit, or an indoor board fault
  • Water is running down the wall under the indoor unit Blocked condensate drain, slipped drain line or a failed condensate pump
  • The light on the indoor unit keeps blinking and it shuts off Stored fault code from a sensor, communication or outdoor unit failure
  • It smells musty every time the head starts up Biological growth on the blower wheel and coil, plus a slow-draining pan
  • The outdoor unit hums but nothing comes out of the heads Failed inverter board, compressor or capacitor, or a lost communication wire

People call this mini-split repair or ductless AC repair. Same visit, same written quote, same technician.

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Check the remote and the wall thermostat: fresh batteries, mode set to cool or heat rather than fan or dry, and the setpoint actually above or below room temperature.
  • 2Look for a tripped breaker or the disconnect switch beside the outdoor unit being off, and reset a breaker once only. If it trips again, stop and call us.
  • 3Pull the washable filters out of each indoor head, rinse or replace them, and let them dry fully before sliding them back in.
  • 4Clear grass, leaves, mulch and snow away from the outdoor unit and make sure nothing is blocking the airflow through the coil or above the fan.

Mini-Split Repair — quick answers

Why is only one zone in my multi-zone system not working?

Usually the problem is at that single head or its branch: a failed indoor board, a stuck expansion valve, a bad sensor or a leak at that line set. Because the other zones still run, the outdoor unit is often fine. We test each circuit separately.

Can a mini-split be repaired, or do I have to replace the whole system?

Most are repairable. Boards, sensors, fan motors, capacitors and condensate pumps are all replaceable parts. We recommend replacement when the compressor has failed on an older system or when parts are no longer produced for that model.

What does a blinking light on my indoor unit mean?

It is a stored fault code, and each manufacturer numbers them differently. The blink pattern points to a sensor, communication or pressure problem. We read the code at the unit, then confirm with actual measurements rather than replacing parts on a guess.

Why does my mini-split leak water inside the house?

Almost always drainage. The condensate line runs by gravity through the wall, so a small clog of dust and biological growth backs water into the pan and over the edge. We clear the line, flush the pan and check the slope.

Do mini-splits need cleaning as part of a repair?

Often, yes. The blower wheel and coil inside the head collect a film that cuts airflow and holds odor, and no amount of part swapping fixes that. We can deep-clean the indoor unit while we are there for the repair.

My mini-split heats poorly on the coldest mornings. Is it broken?

Not necessarily. Heat pump output drops as outdoor temperature falls, and the unit also pauses to defrost the outdoor coil. If it is short cycling, icing over for long stretches or throwing a code, that is a repair issue and we should look.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, no air, a smell, a noise, a breaker that keeps tripping. That detail tells us what parts to bring along.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

We check the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow and the equipment itself before we quote anything. If the problem sits in the ductwork rather than the unit, we say so plainly.

  3. Step 3

    We repair and explain

Most air conditioning repair and heating repair work finishes in one visit. We show you the failed part, explain what caused it, and tell you what to watch for next season.

Why homeowners call us

  • Propane and dual fuelPlenty of homes in our service area run propane heat or a dual fuel setup with a heat pump. We know how those systems switch over and why a bad changeover setting can leave you cold and burning fuel.
  • Older houses, added ductworkFarmhouses often got ducts decades after they were built, run through crawl spaces and attics. When the equipment tests fine but rooms still fight each other, we look at the duct runs and static pressure.
  • Repair before replacementA failed capacitor, a cracked wire, a clogged drain or a bad control board is a repair, not a new system. We tell you when the equipment is genuinely finished and when it is not.
  • Plain talk on the phoneWe ask what the thermostat reads, whether the outdoor unit is spinning, and when it last worked normally. That two minute conversation often shortens the visit and keeps the repair cost down.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
