What electric furnace repair actually involves
An electric furnace heats with a bank of resistance elements that switch on in stages. When one stage fails you still get airflow, just not enough heat, so the system runs and runs. We test each element for continuity, check the sequencers that bring them on in order, and verify the blower is moving the air those elements need. High-voltage electric heat draws hard, so we also inspect the disconnect, wiring and terminals for heat damage. We do not open panels for homeowners to poke at. That part is ours.
What we check on the call
We start at the thermostat and work back: is it calling for heat, and is the furnace answering. Then filter and return airflow, because a starved blower makes limit switches trip and shut heat down over and over. From there we test elements, sequencers, the transformer, the limit and the blower motor and capacitor. On dual-fuel setups we confirm the heat pump and the electric backup are handing off correctly, since a stuck lockout is a common reason a home feels cold on mild days.
How we decide repair is the right call
Most electric furnaces are worth repairing. Elements and sequencers are individual parts, and replacing one or two on an otherwise sound cabinet and blower makes sense. We look at the age of the unit, the condition of the blower and control board, and whether the same part has failed more than once. Repeat element failures usually point at airflow or duct problems rather than the furnace itself, which matters in older farmhouses where duct was added long after the house was built. We tell you what we found either way.

Why does my electric furnace keep tripping the breaker?
Usually a shorted heating element, a failed sequencer holding a stage on, or a loose high-voltage connection generating heat. Reset it once. If it trips again, leave the breaker off and call us rather than resetting repeatedly.
My electric furnace blows air but the house stays cold. What is wrong?
Often one or more heating elements have burned out, so the blower runs but little heat is produced. A tripped limit switch or a bad sequencer does the same thing. We test each stage to find which one quit.
Do electric furnaces need annual service like gas ones?
Yes, though there is no combustion to check. We look at airflow, filter condition, element and sequencer operation, blower motor and capacitor, and the electrical connections that carry the load. Airflow problems cause most element failures.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, no air, a smell, a noise, a breaker that keeps tripping. That detail tells us what parts to bring along.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
We check the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow and the equipment itself before we quote anything. If the problem sits in the ductwork rather than the unit, we say so plainly.
- Step 3
We repair and explain
Most air conditioning repair and heating repair work finishes in one visit. We show you the failed part, explain what caused it, and tell you what to watch for next season.

Why homeowners call us
- Propane and dual fuelPlenty of homes in our service area run propane heat or a dual fuel setup with a heat pump. We know how those systems switch over and why a bad changeover setting can leave you cold and burning fuel.
- Older houses, added ductworkFarmhouses often got ducts decades after they were built, run through crawl spaces and attics. When the equipment tests fine but rooms still fight each other, we look at the duct runs and static pressure.
- Repair before replacementA failed capacitor, a cracked wire, a clogged drain or a bad control board is a repair, not a new system. We tell you when the equipment is genuinely finished and when it is not.
- Plain talk on the phoneWe ask what the thermostat reads, whether the outdoor unit is spinning, and when it last worked normally. That two minute conversation often shortens the visit and keeps the repair cost down.
- All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
