What this repair involves
We start at the thermostat and work outward. First we confirm the call for heat is actually reaching the equipment, then we watch the outdoor unit through a cycle to see whether the reversing valve shifts and the coil warms. We take refrigerant pressures and temperature readings at the indoor coil, check the defrost board and sensor, and test the auxiliary or backup heat separately. On dual-fuel systems we also verify the changeover point so the furnace side picks up when outdoor temperatures drop.
What we check and what we replace
Common finds are a reversing valve solenoid that lost its coil, a defrost sensor reading wrong, a contactor that welded shut, a low charge from a leak at a service valve or coil, or a compressor no longer pumping. Indoors we look for a blower running slow, a plugged filter, and closed or crushed ducts, which shows up often in older farmhouses where ductwork was added long after the framing went up. We repair what is repairable and give you honest options when it is not.
How we decide it is the right call
We decide by measurement, not guesswork. If the coil warms, the temperature rise across the indoor unit is reasonable, and the only issue is short cycling in cold weather, the fix may be a thermostat setting or a backup heat lockout. If pressures show a real leak or the reversing valve will not shift, that is a repair. When a compressor has failed on an older system, we lay out repair against replacement with the numbers in front of you and let you choose.

Why is my heat pump blowing cool air in winter?
Usually the reversing valve has not shifted into heating, the charge is low, or the unit is stuck in a defrost cycle. A quick diagnostic tells us which. Call us and we will test it.
Is ice on the outdoor unit normal?
Light frost that clears during defrost is normal. Thick ice covering the coil is not, and it means the defrost control, sensor or charge needs attention. Clear snow and debris away, then call us.
My emergency heat works but the heat pump does not. Why?
That points to the heat pump side specifically: reversing valve, refrigerant charge, outdoor fan or compressor. Emergency heat is a separate circuit. Use it to stay warm and book a diagnostic soon.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, no air, a smell, a noise, a breaker that keeps tripping. That detail tells us what parts to bring along.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
We check the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow and the equipment itself before we quote anything. If the problem sits in the ductwork rather than the unit, we say so plainly.
- Step 3
We repair and explain
Most air conditioning repair and heating repair work finishes in one visit. We show you the failed part, explain what caused it, and tell you what to watch for next season.

Why homeowners call us
- Propane and dual fuelPlenty of homes in our service area run propane heat or a dual fuel setup with a heat pump. We know how those systems switch over and why a bad changeover setting can leave you cold and burning fuel.
- Older houses, added ductworkFarmhouses often got ducts decades after they were built, run through crawl spaces and attics. When the equipment tests fine but rooms still fight each other, we look at the duct runs and static pressure.
- Repair before replacementA failed capacitor, a cracked wire, a clogged drain or a bad control board is a repair, not a new system. We tell you when the equipment is genuinely finished and when it is not.
- Plain talk on the phoneWe ask what the thermostat reads, whether the outdoor unit is spinning, and when it last worked normally. That two minute conversation often shortens the visit and keeps the repair cost down.
- All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
